phoenix

atkins and i were talking about phoenix's new album wolfgang amadeus phoenix yesterday afternoon. i had just heard the album for the first time and he had just aquired a legal version. i've been listening to it pretty much non-stop since. those french really know about pop muisc. his vocal style reminds me a lot of of montreal. but this album is original, a really good. at least one day in.

you should be able to listen to the entire album below. i don't know why only the first song plays for 30 seconds, but it looks like the rest play all the way through.

This is Beirut???

I am obsessed with this song from the new Beirut album. Although it is not even close to what I expected when I first turned it on.

(i added a lala player instead, it should play the full song-stan)

currently spinning

since i'm too lazy to find time for an in-depth post, here's a sampling of what's been on my ipod most recently. it's nothing new, many of you have already posted about these bands here.

the only comment i have is that t"tightrope" is off of the dark was the night collection. i hadn't listened to yeasayer before and it made me download all hour cymbals. check that album out if you haven't, it's excellent.

God Help the Girl

I'm a huge Belle & Sebastian fan. The lead singer, Stuart Murdoch is probably one of my favorite songwriters. His new sixties pop and rock n' roll are subtle enough to be cool and I think his melodies are hummable and beautiful. Lately old Stu has been fraternizing with some of his female cohorts , and a newbie Catherine Ireton who graced the cover of B&S's White Collar Boy single.

His side project is called God Help the Girl and their album is a product of his searching and soliciting for online talent via imeeem, enter Asya from Smoosh, online finds Brittany Stallings and Dina Bankole, and Neil Hannon of the Divine Comedy. However it's Catherine Ireton who steals the show (see for yourself). Their album will be released this June 23rd.

The Lonley Island

I usually don't do musical comedy albums, however, all those digital shorts you see on SNL by Andy Samberg have been made into a full length album called Incredibad. Don't bother buying it, plus the IRAN song isn't even on there. There are only like three good songs that you haven't heard or seen yet. Below are my two favs.
