Atkin's aforementioned Wolf Parade side projects

I really like this music blog idea. I can't stop posting.

Anyway, i'm sure most of you already know of this, but here's an example of a Wolf Parade member's side project: Handsome Furs. The singer (and guitarist?) from Wolf Parade (I think - correct me if I'm wrong) is Dan Boeckner, and this is a side project of his. Below is a good song from the Handsome Furs' album, Plague Park. Enjoy.

musicsaurus

FYI - the below song is now an MP3 and unprotected...

At our family festivities today, the suffix "-saurus" kept on being added to words (i.e. turkeysaurus, boogersaurus, babysaurus)...

So in honor of some Thanksgiving conversations at the Compton-Lehman household, i've decided to upload a song by...truckasaurus. Myspace describes them as club/crunk/hyphy (not sure if this accurately describes all of their music). I like some of their songs. You may like this one. Or you may already hate them if you know what they are.

Horse Feathers

A song by Horse Feathers (and a test to see if posting songs actually works)....

Thanksgiving is for music too

Top 9 albums I'm thankful for in 2008:

9. Sun Kil Moon, April
The dude from Red House Painters. Songs are similar, but reallllllllllllllllly long.

8. Coldplay, Viva La Vida
I thought I would hate it, but I actually like it.

7. TV on the Radio, Dear Science
My new favorite of theirs.

6. Sigur Ros, Med Sud I Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust
The most accessible Sigur Ros album yet. The songs are pretty short by their standards.

5. Deerhunter, Microcastle
One of the oddest men in indie rock...

4. Horse Feathers, House With No Home
Imagine Bon Iver with violins and cellos. Just look at the album cover and you can feel how it will sound.

3. Wolf Parade, At Mount Zoomer
These guys are just so good. If they would quit putting out solo albums and side projects every month and just focused on Wolf Parade, they would probably be my second favorite band alive today.

2. Fleet Foxes, Fleet Foxes
The disaster that was My Morning Jacket's new album left a void in my life, but Fleet Foxes filled it immediately. And probably better than MMJ could have done anyway.

1. Dodos, Visiter
I love this album for the same reason I hate the sounds that come out of Nashville and LA. Anyone can pay thousands to get 25 of the top studio musicians in a room and make a mediocre song sound full and grandiose. But there's just something awesome about when you can feel how hard two kids are working to create a raw, full sound by strumming, pounding, and kicking their piece of crap guitar and make-shift drum kits. And the songs are just great.

Thom's Lazy Eye

Welcome to the Eye!

Let me introduce to you Thom's Lazy Eye, a blog/forum for friends (and occasionally Cullin) to share the music they have been enjoying for the benefit of others. This can be introducing a new band, revisiting a old classic song, a top 10 list, or anything that might broaden the horizons of your brethren in this quest for great music. There is a multitude of remarkable music that does not get the attention it deserves, but with the guidance of The Eye our quest for enlightenment might not prove so arduous.

There are only two rules for this blog:
1) Anyone claiming (or even hinting) that they "discovered" a band or that they were listening to a band before they were popular will lose posting privileges indefinitely.
2) Anyone claiming (or even hinting) that any album is the "emo Sgt. Pepper" will lose posting privileges permanently.

Sound easy enough? Rock on!
