i was wondering when someone would post about this. i haven't given it my full attention yet, but i've really enjoyed what i've heard. the thing i keep thinking is that it is sufjan's Kid A. not in that it is as great as kid a, but that it is the same style shift: organic to electronic, will probably frustrate and alienate some casual fans, but definitely the best move for him in the long run. as the mediocre "all delighted people" EP proved, he was starting to get stale and he needed to mix it up. a bold move, but a good move. it speaks very well for his ability to be diverse and his chances of lasting a long time and being one of the indie greats some day.
I picked up the album and I have really been enjoying it. For some reason, when I bought it I was almost not wanting it to be good (if that makes any sense?)… it’s almost like I was kind of cheering against him or something like that (but, I still got the album so that I could check it out for myself). Anywho, it won me over big-time and I really have been enjoying it a lot. I definitely agree with the Kid A comparison… not in it’s excellence, but more in the specific shift in sound and the affect it may have on his fans.
