The Deep Vibration

The Deep Vibration is a band out of Nashville. The lead singer and creator of the band, Matt Campbell was a student of mine at Belmont. The band is deeply influenced by The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Elvis Costello, Tom Waits, The Band, The Velvet Underground, The Byrds, The Kinks, The Clash, The Ramones, Phil Spector, Stax Records, Townes Van Zandt, Flying Burrito Brothers, & Hank Williams. You can definitely hear the Neil Young in there and they remind me of early angry Ryan Adams. Hope you enjoy!

brothersport

In the vein of what I'm listening to lately:

I've come around to Animal Collective slowly. I didn't go gaga over Strawberry Jam, but I did like Panda Bear's Person Pitch, so I thought I'd give them another go. Tracks like "My Girls" and "Bluish" got me going, but it was the synth breakdown at the 3:00 mark on the last track "Brothersport" that hooked me. Which is why I've had it on repeat this week:

Sorry- Imeem is doing the dumb 30 second thing. I'm sure you all have the album anyways.

P.S. This is an interesting take on Hipster Run Off. Entertaining.

Some New, Some Old

3 songs have been on repeat on my new 120 GB ipod lately(thanks super hero wife), and when you realize that i've had my ipod for only 5 days that's what i call driving your point home. yes, there are other songs on repetition, but you have already talked about them. "so make of that, what you will."

i'm really digging A.C. Newman's album,
Get Guilty, this LA band, No Age, and my brother in law reintroduced me to a band that i discarded into the list of bands that i should pretend to like but never really listened too. he even went to go see their final show in a cave in McMinnville, TN. i'm definitely not jealous.

There Are Maybe Ten Or Twelve - A.C. Newman

the bird and the bee

I was bored and looking through Pitchfork's recent reviews and ran across The Bird and The Bee. Maybe because Third has gotten me into the mood for "Trip-Hop 2.0", a female singer and "space-jazz" DJ pop duo hit the right note, so to speak.
